Day off today to see the sights of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. So I lept at the chance to get down to the harbour and see if someone would take me out fishing. I was in luck – out into the fog we steamed, in an old trawler and just 5 kms offshore to drop our lines in 35 m depth. No bait, just irradescent strips above the hooks. The targets were cod, haddock and catfish. In 2 hours we had 30 on board, mostly cod and no catfish. Filletting furiously on the way back to port I had tea for the team and a good day had been had to sample Iceland’s famed fishing.
