Following the stunning rides through the Shenandoah Skyline, Blue Ridge parkway and the adrenalin rush of the “Tail of the dragon” at Deal’s gap on the border between Tennessee & Nth Carolina, we were looking for somewhere peaceful to set up our first camp of the tour. Our choice was the appropriately named Kickstand Lodge not far from Tootsie’s Cafe in the beautiful Smoky Mountains.
After a very competitive game of horseshoe throwing, some liquid refreshments and a beautiful home cooked meal put on by the camps hosts Mo & Fred, we retired to our tents on the banks of the babbling brook.
No sooner were we under cover than the heavens opened and while the rain beat upon the tent we were also treated to a lightning & thunder storm to remember, it seemed to be centred right above us, the flashes of lightning illuminating the tents so you could read a book.
As the rains came down the babbling brook became a racing stream, but the tents held firm, we remained dry and the new day dawned warm & fine as we packed our bikes & hit the road
Many thanks Mo & Fred for your hospitality, you have a delightful spot in a great part of America.
