Where babies come from

I can remember my mother telling about babies and storks but it is only in the last few days I have seen these magnificent birds in the flesh. At a border crossing a few days ago there were a pair creating a nest on top of a light tower they seem be using large twigs rather than hay or grass to create their huge nest.

Today as we departed Erzurum, to the right of the road in a grove of several hundred poplar trees there were literally dozens of stork nests but no storks! I pondered this for some kilometres, and then of course the answer hit me – my mother was right. Where were the storks? They were away delivering new babies to expectant couples, and I know where one was delivered a few days ago! A beautiful daughter to Mike and Alex in Wellington, and Alex said it arrived in perfect condition.
