Turkey and Iran have got the most fascinating landscapes . I am now digging back 40 plus years to remenber some of the local geology ( Iam sure my friend Bruce will comment if I am too wrong ) The thing that struck me was the extent of Glaciation all the classic tell tale signs of Truncated Spurs and Hanging valleys together with the huge areas of terminal morraine material we are talking areas of hundreds of square kilometers the morraine material appears to have washed down over the centuries and formed quite fertile areas which are cropped . There is also spectacular evidence of extentive volcanism it appears to be mainly intrusive basalt frequenlty formng huge columns ,it does make for a wonderful vista from the bike.
