Korea is arguably the country of North Asia which Europeans know least. Part of that reason of course is that the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea) has been pretty difficult to access since it was established in the post World War II carve-up between the USSR and USA and Britain and then comprehensively isolated after the Korean War of 1950-1953.

But even South Korea (the Republic of Korea, or ROK) remains much of an enigma to Europeans. Of those that have travelled there, very few have ventured beyond the capital and trading mecca of Seoul. Yet the villages, coastal and mountain national parks, are the heart of South Korea. Only a quarter of the population lives in Seoul, yet it receives a disproportionate share of overseas visitors.

A couple of us have toured South Korea several times, using its ubiquitous public transport network enjoying not just the fantastic food but all the outdoors activities that country has to offer. Autumn and Spring are the best seasons. It was an obvious decision then to say, "Hey, let's trip around the place by motorcycle".

So here we go.
